Timber mulches to keep your backyard clean

The layer of material that is applied to the surface of an area of soil is known as mulch. The purpose of use of mulch can be the following –

•    Moisture conservation
•    Improvement of health and fertility of soil
•    Reduction of growth of weed
•    Enhancement of the visual appeal of the area

Mulches are usually organic in nature. It may be of permanent in nature like plastic sheeting or temporary like bark chips. Its application can be done to the bare soil and or around existing plants. Compost or manure mulches can be incorporated naturally in the soil with the activity of worms and other organisms. When the application of mulches is done correctly, it can dramatically improve soil productivity as because this process can be used in both commercial crop production and gardening.

The materials which are used in mulches vary hugely and depend on a large number of factors. The use of mulches has to take into consideration factors like availability, the chemical and physical effect it has on the soil and how clean the soil is. The varieties of materials which are used in mulches are –

•    Organic residues
•    Compost
•    Plastic mulch
•    Rubber mulch
•    Rocks and gravel.

Since mulches are a great way to improve soil fertility, there are a lot of materials available out there that can be used to make mulches. One of the methods of making mulches is Mulching Timber NSW. Waste timbers such as old fence peelings and pallets are used and deposited into mulch makers and mulch products are made out of them. This is basically done for two reasons – one is to reduce the amount of usable timber that is deposited into a land fill and the other reason is simply to make mulch out of it.
